Al Ain and Sharjah played out a goalless draw on Sunday at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Matchweek 11 of the ADNOC Pro League.
With the result, Al Ain increased their tally to 19 points, securing 4th place in the league table ahead of Al Nasr on goal difference.
Meanwhile, Sharjah strengthened their position at the top with 28 points, maintaining a two-point lead over second-placed Shabab Al Ahli.
Sharjah started strongly, controlling the early minutes of the match.
In the 6th minute, Caio Lucas cleverly found the net with a backheel strike, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Minutes earlier, Caio had missed a golden opportunity to give Sharjah the lead, failing to convert a one-on-one chance against Al Ain’s goalkeeper Khalid Eisa.
As the game progressed, Al Ain responded with a series of counterattacks.
In the 43rd minute, Laba Kodjo almost scored for the home team, but Sharjah defender Shaheen Abdalla intervened just in time, deflecting the ball for a corner.
The second half began with Al Ain taking the initiative.
Mohamed Awad tested Sharjah goalkeeper Adel Alhosani with a powerful strike, but the latter made an excellent save to keep the score level.
Both teams continued to press for a winner in the final minutes, but solid defending and missed opportunities ensured the game ended without goals.
Each team walked away with a point in a closely contested encounter.
