Shabab Al Ahli have opened up a seven-point gap at the top of the ADNOC Pro League table with a 2-0 win over Al Orooba in matchweek 17 of the ADNOC Pro League at Rashid Stadium on Sunday.
Sardar Azmoum assisted the first goal, picking out Guilherme Da Silva with an intelligent flick for the opener, before scoring a penalty kick to secure the three points for the league's leaders.
It deepened Al Orooba's relegation fears, as they have just one win and 16 defeats.
Nine minutes after the break, Sardar Azmoum's pass left Guilherme Da Silva with a clear path and enough room to glide a strike into the top right corner, giving the hosts the lead.
Shabab Al Ahli were awarded a penalty kick in the 82nd minute due to a foul on Al Orooba's left back Salem Suliman.
This time, Azmoum turned from a provider to a scorer as he stroked the ball from the spot-kick into the left top corner after sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
The result means that Shabab Al Ahli is at the top of the table with 44 points, while Al Orooba are at the bottom with 3 points.
