Abu Dhabi Derby Headlines Matchweek 17 as Title Race and Survival Battle Intensify

The Abu Dhabi derby between Al Wahda and Al Jazira sets the stage for an exciting Matchweek 17 in the ADNOC Pro League, as the competition enters a decisive stretch where every point could significantly shape the standings.

 

 

The round will be played over three days, from Friday 20 February to Sunday 22 February, with all fixtures kicking off at 21:30 in line with the holy month of Ramadan schedule. With the Adnoc Pro League approaching its crucial phase, the battle for points intensifies across the table.

 

 

Al Wahda host Al Jazira at Al Nahyan Stadium in a highly anticipated derby. Al Wahda sit third with 30 points and a game in hand, while Al Jazira are fifth on 25 points. Both sides are eager to strengthen their positions as the race for the top places heats up.

 

 

Historically, the rivalry has delivered excitement, with 33 Pro League meetings producing 110 goals. Al Wahda have claimed 14 wins compared to nine for Al Jazira, while 10 matches ended in draws.

 

 

Elsewhere on Friday, Al Dhafra face a tough challenge against second-placed Shabab Al Ahli at Hamdan bin Zayed Stadium. Al Dhafra are tenth with 17 points, while Shabab Al Ahli, level on 38 points with leaders Al Ain and holding a game in hand, aim to maintain pressure at the summit.

 

 

Ajman, seventh with 20 points, welcome Sharjah, who sit ninth on 17 points and also have a postponed match, in another important contest.

 

 

Saturday’s fixtures see Kalba, eleventh with 16 points, take on Dibba, thirteenth on 12 points with a game in hand, in a clash that could reshape the lower half of the table. Meanwhile, Al Wasl, fourth with 26 points and a match postponed, host Al Bataeh, who are twelfth with 13 points, as both sides chase valuable points.

 

 

The round concludes on Sunday with two compelling encounters. League leaders Al Ain, with 38 points, travel to face bottom-placed Bani Yas, who have 11 points but a game in hand. In the other fixture, Al Nasr host Khorfakkan at Al Maktoum Stadium, with just three points separating the sides, as Al Nasr sit sixth on 21 points and Khorfakkan eighth on 18.
