Bani Yas showed resilience and character to come from behind and secure a 1–1 draw against Sharjah in matchweek 22 of the ADNOC Pro League on Friday.
The visitors made a fast start and wasted little time in asserting their intent.
Ousmane Camara broke the deadlock early on with a moment of individual brilliance, gliding past his marker before unleashing a powerful strike through a crowded defensive line to find the back of the net and hand Sharjah the advantage.
Bani Yas responded with increased urgency, growing into the contest as the first half progressed, but Sharjah’s defensive organization ensured they went into the break with their slender lead intact.
The momentum shifted after the restart, as Bani Yas pushed forward in search of an equaliser.
Their persistence paid off in the 51st minute in fortunate yet deserved fashion. A driven effort from Saviour Godwin took a decisive deflection off Yumin Cho, wrong-footing goalkeeper Adel Alhosani and finding its way into the net to level the score.
With the match finely poised at 1–1, both sides pushed for a winner in an open and competitive second half.
Bani Yas looked the more dangerous going forward, backed by strong home support, while Sharjah remained a threat on the counterattack. However, neither side could find the decisive breakthrough as the points were ultimately shared.
The result sees Sharjah move to seventh place on 25 points, while Bani Yas sit 11th with 22 points as the race for positions continues to intensify in the closing stages of the season.
