A late penalty from Yuri Cesar earned Shabab Al Ahli a hard fought 2-1 victory over Al Nasr in matchweek 24 of the ADNOC Pro League on Wednesday.
The result kept Shabab Al Ahli second in the standings with 56 points, while Al Nasr remained sixth on 34 points.
Al Nasr broke the deadlock after 28 minutes through a moment of individual brilliance from Ramon Mierez, who burst past two defenders before curling a superb strike into the bottom corner.
Shabab Al Ahli responded before the break as Mateus Lima reacted quickest inside the area to turn home from close range after the goalkeeper had parried the initial effort.
The visitors pushed for a winner in the closing stages and eventually found it in dramatic fashion in the 90th minute when Yuri Cesar calmly converted from the penalty spot, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to seal all three points.
The victory ensured Shabab Al Ahli maintained pressure near the top of the table, while Al Nasr were left frustrated after conceding late in an evenly contested Dubai derby.
