Al Wasl produced a stunning comeback to defeat Iraq's Al Zawraa 4–2 at Zabeel Stadium on Tuesday, sealing qualification for the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League Two with a 6–5 aggregate victory.
In a dramatic encounter that produced six goals, Al Wasl overturned a two-goal setback in what will be remembered as a historic turnaround.
Al Zawraa opened the scoring in the 21st minute through Ibrahim Tomiwa and carried a 1–0 lead into halftime.
Al Wasl responded immediately after the break, as substitute Palacios found the equaliser in the 46th minute to shift the momentum.
However, the visitors struck again in the 65th minute, with Tomiwa completing his brace following a swift counter-attack.
Facing elimination, Al Wasl raised the intensity and were rewarded in the 76th minute when Miguel Borja levelled the score once more.
With the match heading toward a narrow aggregate exit, Al Wasl produced late drama as Adryelson scored in stoppage time to send the tie into extra time.
The defender then completed a memorable night by netting his second goal in the 110th minute, sealing a 4–2 victory and a place in the last eight.
