The opening matchweek of the 2026-27 ADNOC Pro League set a new scoring record, with 33 goals finding the net across the round to make it the highest-scoring opening matchweek in the professional era.
The tally surpassed the previous record of 31 goals, set in the opening round of the 2018-19 season, by two goals.
The numbers reflected the variety of attacking contributions throughout the matchweek, with both starters and substitutes getting on the scoresheet and goals arriving at different stages of matches, including stoppage time.
With such an action-packed start, the opening round has already raised expectations for the season ahead, sending an early message that the 2026-27 ADNOC Pro League is set to deliver plenty of attacking football.
Al Wasl and Shabab Al Ahli led the scoring charts with five goals apiece, while Al Ain and Al Jazira now share the record for the most goals scored from the 90th minute onwards in ADNOC Pro League history, with 70 each.
The second half produced the majority of the goals, with 22 scored after the break compared to 11 in the first half. The final quarter of matches proved particularly productive, accounting for 16 goals.
Shabab Al Ahli also dominated the passing statistics in the opposition half, completing 214 passes with an accuracy of 87.6%.
Al Jazira were the only side to keep a clean sheet in the opening round, while Al Ain wrote another chapter in the competition's history by becoming the first team to record 11 consecutive ADNOC Pro League victories.
Comebacks were another major feature of the opening matchweek, with Shabab Al Ahli and Al Ain both overturning deficits to claim impressive victories.
Shabab Al Ahli recovered from going a goal behind against Khorfakkan to secure a commanding 5-1 victory, while Al Ain produced a remarkable turnaround against Bani Yas, coming back from two goals down to seal a thrilling 4-2 win.
The individual numbers were equally impressive, with five players scoring twice during the opening round, providing an early indication of what could develop into a fiercely contested race for the Golden Boot.
Al Ain's El Houssin Rahimi, Shabab Al Ahli's Saeid Ezatolahi, Al Wasl's Sergio, Ajman's Victor Henrique and Bani Yas' Youssoufou Niakate all registered braces.
Meanwhile, Soufian Rahimi reached another significant milestone, becoming the highest-scoring Moroccan player in ADNOC Pro League history. The Al Ain forward took his tally to 46 goals, moving ahead of Waleed Azaro, who scored 45.
With records broken, dramatic comebacks and goals flowing from the very first matchweek, the 2026-27 ADNOC Pro League has set the tone for what promises to be a highly competitive season.
