Al Jazira Aim to Defend League Lead Against Al Wasl

Al Jazira will host Al Wasl at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium on Sunday, 8 November, in a crucial Matchweek 8 encounter that could have a significant impact on the ADNOC Pro League standings.

Al Jazira enter the match top of the table with 14 points and an unbeaten record, while Al Wasl sit third with 13 points, just one behind.

A win would strengthen Al Jazira's top spot, while Al Wasl will look to overtake their rivals and continue their challenge near the top.

The two clubs have met 34 times in the professional league era, with Al Jazira holding the historical advantage after recording 18 victories, compared with nine for Al Wasl. Seven matches ended in draws.

Those encounters have produced 120 goals, with Al Jazira scoring 67 and Al Wasl netting 53.

Ali Mabkhout leads the scoring charts in the fixture's league history with 12 goals, followed by Al Wasl's Fabio Lima with 11.

Despite Al Jazira's stronger overall record, recent meetings have favoured Al Wasl.

The Dubai club are unbeaten in their last six league encounters with Al Jazira, having recorded four victories and two draws.

Al Wasl have also won the last three meetings between the sides, equalling the number of victories they achieved across the preceding 16 encounters, when they recorded three wins, five draws and eight defeats.

Their away form has been equally impressive, with Al Wasl avoiding defeat in their last six ADNOC Pro League matches on the road, winning five and drawing one.
They have also scored at least two goals in each of those six away fixtures.

Al Jazira, meanwhile, have avoided defeat in their opening six league matches for the sixth time in their professional-era history.

Both teams have demonstrated attacking depth this season, with eight different players scoring for each club, matching Al Ain for the highest number of goalscorers in the competition.

For Al Wasl, Fabio Lima is seeking to end an unusual scoring drought, having failed to find the net in his first six league appearances of the season.

It is only the second time he has gone without a goal in his opening six league matches, following the 2014-15 campaign, when he needed eight appearances to score his first goal.
