Shabab Al Ahli and Al Ain are set for a major ADNOC Pro League showdown on Saturday, October 17, with both teams looking to strengthen their positions near the top of the standings as their historic rivalry takes centre stage.
The Matchweek 6 clash kicks off at 19:45 at Rashid Stadium, with just three points separating the two sides and a strong turnout expected from supporters of both clubs.
Al Ain enter the match in second place with 13 points, having won four of their opening five matches and drawn one. Shabab Al Ahli sit third with 10 points from three victories, one draw and one defeat.
A win for the hosts would bring them level on points with Al Ain, while the visitors will be looking to extend their unbeaten start and maintain their challenge for the top spot.
The two clubs have met 34 times in the Pro League, with Al Ain holding the historical advantage through 15 victories compared with 10 for Shabab Al Ahli, while nine encounters have ended in draws.
Al Ain have also scored more goals in these meetings, finding the net 57 times against Shabab Al Ahli's 41.
Long-range goals have been a notable feature of the rivalry, with 15 goals scored from outside the penalty area, including eight by Al Ain and seven by Shabab Al Ahli. Three of the last six goals in their meetings have also come from outside the box.
Al Ain have won their last two league encounters against Shabab Al Ahli and will be aiming for a third consecutive victory, a feat they have achieved only once before, between 2011 and 2012.
Al Zaeem have recorded more Pro League victories against Shabab Al Ahli than any other club, while their 57 goals against the Dubai team are second only to Al Jazira's 62.
However, Shabab Al Ahli have enjoyed greater success in meetings when Al Ain entered as defending champions, winning six compared with three victories for their rivals.
With league positions, recent results and historical records adding to the occasion, Saturday's clash promises to be one of the standout fixtures of Matchweek 6.
